This packaging design by Andrew Seunghyun Kim for Coca Cola bottles is his midterm project for the second semester. The new bottle design makes it eco-friendly, not just because of the material it uses, but also because of the shape which takes up less space in the shipping process, making it’s total carbon footprint much smaller.

Robert Bradford creates his life-size and larger-than-life sculptures of humans and animals from discarded plastic items, mainly toys but also other colorful plastic bits and pieces, such as combs and buttons, brushes and parts of clothes pegs.
Bradford says he likes the idea that the plastic pieces have a history, some unknown past, and that they also pass on a “cultural” history as each of the pieces represents a point in time. Recycling is not his primary concern, but each sculpture certainly keeps quite a few places from becoming landfill. Some of the sculptures contain pieces from up to 3,000 toys.

Finally somebody is taking the environmental issues seriously. Sprint and Samsung have just introduced the Reclaim, a super-Eco cellphone made from 80 percent recycled materials. The phone is constructed from “bio-plastic” materials made from corn and is free of PVC. It’s loaded with a 2 mega pixel camera and has all features of a “normal” phone. Of Course even the packaging is Eco-friendly, made from 70 percent recycled materials and printed with soy-based ink. Being the first phone that uses the principles of the cradle to cradle way of thinking, it’s probably going to receive alot of hype.

I bought Cradle to Cradle a couple of months ago, havn’t had time to read it yet, but i’m hoping to get started this Easter. The 7th. of May one of the writers – William McDonough – is coming to Denmark to receive the Rockwool price, so if you want to see him in person, this is your chance.

Even the smallest holes.
The prints we make for our ‘daily use’ not only use paper, but also ink. Dutch communications agency Spranq has therefore developed a new font: Ecofont. After extensive testing with all kinds of shapes, the best results were achieved using small circles. This resulted in a font that uses up to 20% less ink.
Feel free to download it, it’s free to use. Even the smallest contribution matters.
